I expected a change, but boy, it is going to take time to get used to the changes. Some I like, some I’m not sure about, and some things perplex me. My first disappointment is that the Compact Tab Bar option has been removed. I’ve always preferred that. Apparently, most Apple customers did not.
Or they didn’t even know it was available.
I’m finally adjusting to no slide over. I had to shift my thinking and view the iPad more like a Mac.
Indeed! And, I’m realizing that I need to master a few of these keyboard shortcuts. They make things much easier.
I “upgraded” to iPadOS 26 several hours ago and immediately regretted it. My Apple lightning Magic Keyboard and lightning Trackpad weren’t working properly and neither was my external display. After wiping my iPad Air and restoring it TWICE those problems appear to be solved.
Now I have to work on my hatred of iPadOS 26 and Liquid Glass.
I upgraded today as well. That is to, 18.7. I’ll wait awhile to go to 26. There’s nothing that “awe”some about it that I see.
I don’t plan to inflict Liquid Glass on my iPhone 16 Pro in the immediate future. And will probably never install Tahoe on my MBA.
I will give myself two weeks before making any judgement. I have learned that my first reactions are not always where I end.
I now know why Apple got rid of the Compact Tab Bar. I did not realize in the first hours using the new Safari, but as soon as you start to scroll, the toolbar disappears except for the URL address bar. This makes the compact tab bar irrelevant. I like this approach better.
Downloaded iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 on my iPhone 13 mini and iPad Pro M2 respectively. Especially my iPhone is faster than iOS 18.
iPadOS no longer has Split View but Stage Manager is greater. The column (e.g. note list) in different apps like Apple Notes can be adjusted.
Try the magnifier in Preview on iPad too! Interesting!
The only thing that irritates me is Google doesn’t work well on Safari, but I find that it is due to uBlock Lite extensions. I use AdGuard instead.
I love compact tab too, but I can get used to the traditionally new design!
I can’t try macOS because my MacBook Air 2018 can only stay on Sonoma.
