I’m on a journey to see if I can minimize what’s on my phone and only use it for communication and utility purposes, such as 2FA and payments, along with music and podcasts.
Everything else will be on my iPad, to include news and streaming services. I’m hoping by using my iPad for those things it will make it more difficult to pull out that device and mindlessly use it. I figure if I’m pulling out the iPad it’s for a good reason or I’ll limit my screen time to only a couple of times a day.
Apps that I moved from iPhone to iPad include my banking apps, Amazon, iWork, note apps, Reeder, and News.
Not sure if it will work but willing to give it a try.
This is why I am trying to hold on to my 13 mini as long as possible. It forces this behavior. I keep banking and news app on phone, but I create a lot of friction to get to them. The size makes me want to use the phone just for things I need at the moment. Everything else is iPad/Mac. I also have LTE watch and there are days now where that is only device I leave house with. I live in a city and use the watch to pay for my shops, subway, etc plus works so well with AirPods for music/podcasts. It’s heaven. My important messages get me and done!
It’s something I’m okay with having on my iPad. I’m just trying to get apps off my phone, and in a pinch, I can use Safari or download the app temporarily. Most of my banking is done via Apple Card and Apple Savings as well.
I had to give up tricks to use my phone less and just go full light phone. Its a concession that I do not have the discipline because there will always be “one thing” to override screen controls.
For me, so long as there is a browser there is always a temptation to get in a rabbit hole. So until my Light Phone comes in I disabled the browser behind screen time controls and often use Apple maps when I need to look up something in a pinch (usually a real world location). Also, I wish Apple still let you port apps over iTunes style and I can just disable the App store so I just don’t grab a third-party browser. Good luck trying to manage it.
What is the size of your iPad? I’m debating either an 11 inch or a mini for when I “need”
apps.
