I ordered an iPhone for my wife. Ordered online without trade-in; purchased outright. When we get to the Apple Store we want to trade-in her old iPhone and get an Apple gift card. We are doing it this way because of past problems with trade-in and shipping old iPhone to Apple. Also, in the past we could not start a trade-in online and turn in the iPhone at the Apple Store. Can we backup her iPhone, sign out of the Apple account, and do a factory reset before we go to the Apple Store?
They will walk through the whole process with you at the store. I usually do it online and then do the final wipe on the old phone once the new one is up and functioning. Since you’re bringing it to store, I would ask them to help you.
Agreed, and to add, the transfer process between phones should offer to sign out and reset the old phone.
You can wipe the phone and reset it at the Apple Store. You can also setup your new phone from a backup using the store’s WiFi (at least I could at a UK store).
I took the same route as you when I purchased my iPhone 15 Pro a couple of years ago. I backed up my old phone at home, went to the store and completed the purchase, did a final backup of my old phone in store before I reset it and traded it in.
I could have gone straight home and restored from the iCloud backup at home, but decided to use the store’s WiFi to restore it there. I had also taken my iPad with me so did a little work while I waited for the phone to finish setting up. Prevented me from setting up at home and messing about on the phone and not getting the work finished due to the distraction of the new shiny toy!
