I saw a reference to an AppSumo discount when browsing ProductHunt. Seems too good to be true in some cases.
Is this a legit site?

AppSumo is definitely legit - used them for stuff for years. The thing to be aware of is that a fair bit of the stuff ON AppSumo is early version software with a “future roadmap”. And of course the marketing is good, which means it’s a little hype-y. So be aware of what you’re purchasing.
That said, the couple of times I’ve had a bad experience they’ve been good about refunds as well.
They’re legit. I’ve bought from them for years, and snagged some really good deals. I’ve also bought some stinkers, but they’re good about refunds, so there’s not much risk involved.
They are offering 632 Apps, and I know exactly two (NordVPN and Textsniper) of them.
Both Apps I know, I bought cheaper, than what is announced on AppSumo.
And if I take a look onto the other apps, there might be useful Apps among them, but I doubt the “Original Prices” they announce on this site compared to “their price”.
It seems to be legit, but I would be very carefully and not get blinded by the high differences between “Original”-Price and the offers.
I also would check carefully in advance of a purchase the price of the App at other shops, or with the devs themselves, and what you get (Version?, Updates?, Upgrades? and so on) for that price.
“Lifetime license” could have a lot of different definitions…
OK let me post more details on what intrigued me:
This web app was pretty highly received on ProductHunt - in fact # 1 Product of the Day:
But its pricing is quite odd - the first tier is free, but the next tier is EUR2400 per year:
AppSumo however reports a $49 lifetime option
I am trying to reconcile all the above data points. Somehow it all seems a bit inconsistent.
AppSumo is crap.
Down -97% from (and I’m not making this up) $3,370
You’re reading that right folks. $3400 for a yearly membership for an app watcher rofl. I don’t trust any service that makes shit up like this to sell you something. What else are they willing to do?
It’s definitely legit. I’ve bought a few dozen deals in the past few years.
Some lifetime deals are absolutely amazing.
Many apps are in a “beta” stage. Test them out and if you don’t like it they have a very smooth 1 click 60 day refund process. (I’ve tested and refunded more than I’ve kept).
Many devs keep their promises of the future roadmap and many dont. So if you like the deal at its current set of features, then buy it, don’t expect roadmap to be fulfilled.
Many startups fail or slow down development so do the mental effort of changing the meaning of “Lifetime deal” to 2-3 years deal in your mind while shopping and you’ll be closer to reality.
I would argue that’s a good practice in general. Even for an established company, how many times have we seen “lifetime” deals turn into “yeah, that’s not sustainable anymore”, with the follow-up statement of “you have lifetime access to whatever feature set you had when you bought,” or “we decided that ‘lifetime’ gets you a discount on your new subscription,” or whatever?
