Is it OK to unplug this drives on a MacBook when it is in sleep mode

I connect my MacBook to a hub, but I find taking it upstairs to be a pain if I have to shut it down each time I want to use it in another location.

Is it OK just to shut the lid and go into sleep mode and then disconnect the hub and other drives?

I don’t shut down before disconnecting, but I do (try to remember to) eject the external drives. Alfred makes that easy, but sometimes I just drag them to the trash.

You run the risk of data loss by doing this,

However it’s easy to eject the drive and then disconnect it safely.

Generally, no. But there’s this app.

How do u set up Alfred to eject the drives.

I have about 5 drives connected. It I do it manually and it takes about 5 min

Features>Preferences and then ensure eject and eject all are checked. Then just type “eject” or “eject all” in Alfred.

It still takes some time.

The app linked above will do that automatically for you, and will also remount the drives on wakeup, and it’s cheap. I haven’t used it in a while though as I no longer rely much on semi-permanently attached external drives.

Reading On my phone I totally missed the link.

I will chk it out.

Thanks!!
