And up until yesterday I could find all files using them (when I go to their folder, which is the screenshot, I can see the files and the tags). Now when I click any of those tags in the sidebar:
I’m not an expert when it comes to Terminal, but I tried some suggestions from ChatGPT to reset the spotlight, etc, but nothing seems to be working. Tags are super important for my workflow and it’s driving me crazy at this point!
I’m just noticing that the issue is not just with tags…
For example I created a Saved Search and I renamed some files while on that “view”. Those changes are not reflected in the Saved Search window anymore, but when I go to the folder where the files are, I can see that they were renamed properly.
For example in Saved Search I have a file test.jpg
Renamed it test-new.jpg
I still see it as test.jpg
When I go to the folder where the actual file is, I see it as test-new.jpg
Try rebooting to safe mode. Wait for everything to fully load and settle. Then reboot normally and trigger spotlight, see if it shows that it is indexing and wait patiently until it finishes.
Spotlight indexing and related issues can be a deep, frustrating rabbit hole. This may not fix it, but it’s easy to do without making things worse and it works often enough that it’s definitely worth trying.
The issue is that I didn’t clear Spotlight. That’s why it is weird. At least I didn’t do it myself. Maybe there was some glitch and it started doing it by itself. I don’t know…
@evanfuchs I decided to just fully reindex everything over night and it seems to be working now. A few days ago while adding a few tags, there was some kind of glitch that even affected my sidebar. It removed some sections and added back items I previously removed. I don’t know if that affected the spotlight or not, but…
Oh well, everything seems to be working now after reindexing.
Awesome. Just as an FYI, I’ve had situations where I did all the spotlight reindexing stuff, both in the UI and via complicated terminal commands, and it didn’t fix the problem until I rebooted into safe mode. It’s not always the case, but it’s good to have in your pocket in case you get stuck in the future.
