Issues with Mail.app on iOS 26.3.1

iOS 26 is beginning to make me regret not just upgrading, but using Apple at all. How can it produce such a rubbish update?

My most recent frustration is to do with the Mail.app. I received an email from my daughter’s school which I forwarded to my daughter. I then went to reply to the email and it added my daughter into the To field not the original recipient. I ended up replying on my Mac as it kept doing this; and yes, I was in the specific email from the school.

I then went back to iOS and turned off threading. I went back to the original email from the school and hit reply and this time it added the school email correctly, but it quoted the reply I had made on my Mac.

Somehow, mail.app on iOS is working on threads (even when turned off), and will not act on the current open email. This makes the app unusable. The app should perform its action on the current email that is open. I’m now switching to a different mail app as I cannot trust this one to send a simple reply. For Pete’s sake Apple!

An example: I don’t like the Apple Mail iOS app either. I didn’t really want to use eM Client’s iOS app with Fastmail because I couldn’t get push notifications with their OAuth2 verification. So this time I finally bit the bullet and did manual setup on both of my Fastmail accounts with new app passwords. And it worked.

There are options, and em Client is working for me.

My accounts all work and are set up with app passwords. It’s just Mail app not behaving as expected.

got it. I’ve tried many many iOS mail apps, and eM Client’s iOS app has evolved into an app that works better than most. Simply commenting on a bugbear that stopped me from using it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the app store ratings and comments would make me cautious. I’m also not so keen on an app that does calendar, notes and tasks as well. I have apps that do those well. I just need a trustworthy email client, which Mail app used to be until iOS 26.

I just use it for email (app specific password only for email) so I never turned on any of the other features.
