Just wanted to share my free app here on MPU but post got hidden. Tips for posting respectfully?

I recently published a workout app to TestFlight that I’ve been working on for months. Was so excited to post about here yesterday and get some feedback but it got flagged as spam and hidden, but I’m not sure why… this is my first app, I don’t make any money from this, my post was short and to the point and included the TestFlight link. I don’t make any money from this, is there some protocol to follow or a specific place in these forums for posts like this? I posted it in Beta Town because I felt that was the most appropriate place based on the available descriptions but if it would make more sense in another place I would happily re-post it elsewhere. Any feedback would be appreciated, not trying to offend anybody here or waste anybody’s time. Thanks.

This has been an issue for quite some months now. It is unfortunate that you, as a contributor to this community since 2018, became a victim… This community has been struggling with a lot of spam posts recently (vibe coders, SEO spammers). If a regular user flags a post as spam, it is being hidden. This community has done a great job to keep stuff clean here (basically a kind of self-moderation), but I think sometimes regulars overdo their “flagging” without being aware or without any bad intention. The thing is that Discourse does not allow a regular to un-flag a post. Once it is flagged, it is flagged. It only will show up again if a moderator or administrator lifts the flag.

There have been calls to “administrators” to define rules which posts are appropriate and which aren’t.

Have a look at

When @ismh86 left the MPU podcast, he apparently also scaled back on the administration of this community (understandably so) as a community manager. Back in the days, Rosemary Orchard did a lot of work in this community. And before that, also Katie Floyd. I think somebody has to step up and take over. Maybe @MacSparky and @beardfm have an idea?

To be clear: I am very grateful to be able to be a part of this community. This is no criticism at all. We all have a lot of stuff on our plate to be dealt with. I get that.

I didn’t flag it but I had to stop and think if it was legitimate. I’m not sure how you could’ve better worded your post, though, as I remember it. It’d be nice if forum regulars could vouch for posts, not just flag them.

Agree with @Christian that official attention to the forum feels light right now.

Happy to share your TestFlight link myself. I just installed it. I like yolo mode for picking exercises.

Thank you for the feedback, I have in fact been lurking here for 9 years on and off but wasn’t aware this was a problem. I appreciate your insight, friend.

Thanks so much! Appreciate the support. Yeah YOLO is a wild way to work out but I love it on a Friday afternoon to really mix it up!

I just had this happen to me also, it got instantly flagged. I don’t think it’s helpful to just flag it and hide the post, I think the one who flags it should explain why it’s flagged so we can at least edit the post to address the reason for flagging it. I understand not wanting to be spammed fair enough, but I didn’t come on to promote the app but to ask for feedback and people willing to try the app so I can improve it. The app isn’t even released yet. I know my account is new and that doesn’t help of course. I was a windows user for most of my life recently made the switch and started to develop on mac. I have to start somewhere.
