I’m pleased to see that the base model iPhone has been upped to 256GB - I’m certainly thinking of upgrading my 16, as I’m being selective with the music I store on the device and that extra headroom would be nice. The 120Hz screen would be icing on the cake, as when I was trying the Pixel 9a earlier this year, the 120Hz screen was good.
I’ve been toying with switching back to the Apple Watch from Garmin. It’s nice to see the SE has now got always on display and now I’m torn. I could get the SE for day to day wear, and continue to keep the Garmin. Or get the Ultra for some of that longer battery life and action button. That new watch face they have also looks good to me - I’m assuming it’s Ultra only because none of the others watches have it in the photos. However, that’s £500 for the button, larger battery and a watch face. The 11 doesn’t really factor in to my buying decision, as the main selling point in the past was the always on!
Seriously tempted by the AW Ultra 3, but it may have to wait for January.
Then I can relegate my AW 9 to my sleep watch and use the O2 sensor overnight.
It may be a trial balloon to see how the public responds. Like they did with iPhone Mini? The fact that they mentioned a mag safe battery for it makes me question the normal battery life.
True. I have no idea how many people will choose an iPhone with a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 17 Pro, a slower usb-c port, and a significantly less capable camera in order to have a thinner phone.
And save $99. Unless they spend that on the MagSafe Battery for the Air.
I am full of despair because even bigger phones. I already can’t reach control center if I’m holding my phone one handed with my 14 pro, which is a 6.1” screen.
I truly don’t understand how this isn’t more of a problem for small handed people. Do they not search from spotlight and need to reach the top of their phone? Do they not use control center?
I will say I am impressed with how proficient my niece is in using Reachability. So much so it has gotten me to re-think this. I might make a concerted effort to start using that feature instead of shifting my grip to reach the top.
I do understand the issue as my 18 year old daughter still uses a 13 mini because of her small hands. I use my sons old 12 but I use two hands. One to hold and one to select the options. My children laugh at that but yes I believe there is a market for a smaller form factor.
I think the Air battery will surprise people. Its quoteds numbers for battery life are the same as the 16 Pro, but it’s the lightest iPhone since a mini and has a bigger screen than any non-Max Pro iPhone.
Another way to look at the battery life is it’s closer to the 15 Pro Max than the 15 Pro. It’s not as good as the other 17 models but it’s still really really good for almost anybody who is upgrading.
Still most impressed with the features / cost / battery of the base 17 though.
One of my pet peeves with my 13 Pro is that it is heavy… really feels like a brick heavy. Maybe it was still stainless steel. Titanium would be lighter but I have sworn that my next iPhone needs to have bigger screen and lighter and the Air fits this profile! The bonus is its 120hz screen. So, count me in as one who is very interested in the Air. My only gripe is I wish it is 6.9" size like the Max.
I think I heard someone mention that the A19 Pro Performance reaches Macbook Pro Performance?
So I can eventually keep my hopes up high for a 12“ MacBook revival with an A19 pro chip .
As for the other hardware, I’m tempted to try the new AirPods Pro 3 to see if they finally fit and stay in my ears . Currently using the PowerBeats Pro as they fit quite ok but their ANC is a bit lackluster?
As for Apple Watch I have to see if I finally upgrade my trusted version 4 . It’s still going strong with sleep tracking and getting me through a day with some charging in between …
My iPhone 14 Pro Max is still perfectly fine and as of now I haven’t missed any Apple Intelligence features - but the new zoom options get me tempted and the Air for the weight and thinness.
Have to take a look at the Apple Store next week .
