Location Names in FindMy on Mac

When editing the Location Name for People in the FindMy app on any device, including Mac, the location is updated on all iOS/iPadOS devices, but still shows “None” on both my Macs (Sonoma 14.5).

Similarly, when editing a Location Name to a Custom Label for People on any device, including Mac, the Custom Label is added to the list of Custom Labels on ALL devices, and that location is properly shown on all iOS/iPadOS devices, but still shows “None” on both my Macs.

Anyone else have this issue where Location Name always shows as None for People on Mac? Maybe a bug?

Apparently not:
Find_My
However I’ve never used this capability (I only use it for devices) and am curious as to how it works. I have two Apple IDs and the second ID doesn’t show my location. My wife shows her location. How does it know our locations?

I don’t see any way to edit the location name. And what is a custom label? Do you mean changing the photograph in the icon? That can be done in System Settings → Apple ID.

This is Sonoma 14.6.

If you tap on Me and you will see which device is sharing its location in the From field under My Location. You can change this by going to the same spot on your other device and sharing the location from it instead.

To edit a location, tap on a person and scroll down to “Edit Location Name” on iPhone. You can choose from a few boilerplate names, like “work” or create a custom name. In my case, for other people, changes I make to a person’s location is not reflected on either of my Macs.

Just using my Mac, I can click on the (i) and change the location name like you mention. It says it is using my iPhone for my location.

When I look on my iPhone it says that no location is found for me, however it does know where my Mac is.

I think I’ll stick with just using FindMy for devices. That seems to be reliable.
