Logi Options Not Launching Due to Expired Certificate

If you started having issues with your Logitech MX Master today, you may be affected by this like I was:

I guess just another reason to explore the non-Logitech software mentioned in past posts on this forum.

Yes, for me a - the - reason to have uninstalled all Logitech stuff now. And, you know what?! The mouse still works (of course, why not?!).

This was very frustrating! Luckily the new patch worked

Been using mine without any Logi software installed.
Btw, BetterTouchTools just added support for Logi mice

Seconded and it works really well, in the latest beta the dev has even added support for MX keyboards too which means you can use the function keys for any kind of action!

Keyboards too?! It is insane to see the many things he has added to BTT

Yes, it’s very difficult to keep up with all the little gizmos he keeps adding!

I don’t despise Logi Options: I find it very easy and intuitive to customize for my needs. But this was a total f*ckup and says very little of how Logitech delivers software in a predicted, controlled way. Today it was a forgotten developer certificate, next month it can be a zero day exploit…

I stayed away from the Logi app the day I noticed that to remove it completely I needed to go into recovery mode…
Won’t install it again ever

I installed & tested BetterTouchTool and while setting up some triggers/actions (e.g. pressing the wheel → showing emoji & symbols) the app crashed several times.
Result: I will not use it.

Certificate expirations are an ongoing issue for the tech industry: see 10 Cases of Certificate Outages Involving Human Error

Other companies that forgot to update key certificates in the last few years include Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Spotify, LinkedIn, and Ericsson. Good thing these are all little operations that can’t afford decent management tools.

So I won’t take this as an indicator of general incompetence at Logitech. (Putting AI into a mouse driver, on the other hand…)

Another very intriguing alternative to Logi Options that seems friendlier than BetterTouchTool is Kando.
