I use the Logi Options+ sofware and the actions ring is not a replacement for BTT or KM but in my opinion is not half bad, specially liked the “Action ring”. The only issue I’ve found with it installed is that it does not allow to pass the pure click of the button (say, “Button 4”) to BTT, it forces you to assign one of the built-in actions.
I removed the Options + software from my new MacBook Air as it was doing a lot of reading and writing to the drive (for some reason)
+2 for the 3S
Unbeatable for any sort of work (not great for any sort of gaming). I’m not sure I could be without it now.
4 will be purchased when it lands and my 3S retired to my office mouse for work!
Set it up today. First thoughts:
- It is still an MX Master. Feels good in the hand, etc.
- It has an additional button in front of the foward-back buttons, neat!
- Most of my BetterMouse configs worked out of the box
- Bluetooth setup took seconds
- Haptic feedback seems neat but I suspect it requires Options+ and I haven’t investigated whether it’s worth switching back to that yet or not
Like @geoffaire, I will also give this new edition of the mouse an ambiguous swear word aka 5 *s.
Are you also using Logi Options+ by chance? I found that I cannot configure it to pass across the pure button click to Bettertouchtool, but perhaps it’s a limitation of BTT rather than Logi Options.
PS: Never mind, from your message i guess you’re not using it.
With the MX Master 3 I found BTT couldn’t trigger some of the buttons whereas Better Mouse could.
Yes, it seems that Bettermouse has better Logitech specifics built-in. But now I’m in sort of a conundrum. I happen to like the direction Logi Options is taking: I find the Action Ring definitely useful, then there is BTT which is my go-to tool for automation and I hesitate to throw Better Mouse into the mix.
Decisions, decisions.
FWIW:
I haven’t tried either of these in particular, but I have been meaning to!
Kando is excellent, with a polished finish that could probably allow for a commercial model. The only strange thing I find is that it doesn’t trigger the menu from the mouse, only from keyboard events. But it can be integrated with BTT or Mouse Tools, I guess.
Can’t seem to find these for those of us who are lefties. Any recommendations for left handers?
I’m experimenting with Action Ring, but I’ve run into a pretty annoying issue — the ring doesn’t activate whenever a browser window is open.
I’ve tested it with Chrome, Safari, and Brave, and the behavior is exactly the same across all of them.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any idea what might be causing it or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
My 23 year old daughter asked me about the MX Master 3S this morning, “is it a good mouse?”
So I changed the channel and allowed her to pair it with her MacBook for an hour.
I’ve now ruined her life as she continues to look at the 3, 3s, and 4 while wondering if she can justify actually affording to buy one this month. MPU strikes again
You do the Dad thing, give her yours and upgrade to the 4… everyone wins and your OH can’t complain ![]()
Very, very tempting, and I’m not saying it hasn’t crossed my mind.
But for the fact I’m probably already going to end up buying a second one to use in the office, and I really can’t afford to buy 2 more.
Any 3s’ available on discount?
I’ll be looking when the time’s right
Thanks for sharing, its a nice app. I have a couple of buttons that are still unassigned on my MX3. I’ll have to think about it. If I could use alt-tab (another one of your suggestions, IIRC) with those side buttons, that would be awesome.
I tried alt+tab at some point, but I use Contexts for alt+tabbing. And yeah, doing so from the mouse is a clever idea!
