Logitech MX Master 3S (5 Stars) *****

For work, I have a Windows Laptop, and over the years I’ve bought a number of cheapish wired and wireless mice while hearing the great things about the Logi MX Master, but choosing not to spend upwards of £80 on one.

Of course the cheaper name and no name mice did the job, but none of them was truly satisfying.

But 3 months ago I bought an HP510 wireless mouse which truly disappointed me due to the fact that the only way to pair it with a laptop was 1) to use the included dongle which extended about an inch out of the USB A socket and 2) you had to install the software to pair it (you could remove the software afterwards.

That mouse went in a drawer and will likely never be used again, but I was on Amazon and looking for the next mouse and the MX Master 3S was down to about £60, so I bit the bullet and purchased it.

My word, what a revelation. Even without the Logitech Options+ software the mouse is great. The build quality is amazing, it has many buttons which I need to use more which work out of the box. With the software it’s even better, you can make buttons do different things in different apps (this is all in windows)

One thing I’ve not tried yet is that with the Options Software, the MX Master mouse and an appropriate Logitech Keyboard (I have the K380) you can setup a software based pseudo KVM/Universal control across multiple computers. I’ve not had a chance to try this yet, but will at some point.

Never has the adage “Buy cheap, buy twice” been more apt. I probably could have saved myself about £100 in random mice by buying the MX Master two or three years ago.

I recommend it highly.

Welcome to the good side.

The MX Keys / MX Master 3S combo is such a great pair of devices for your manual input. The two scroll wheels on the mouse are very smooth and very useful. The ergonomics are great for me, and the battery life is plenty good. The extra buttons are convenient as well. I don’t use the mouse with any other device, but I actually have my iphone linked to the keyboard, on the rare but occasional time when I’m bopping back and forth between the mac and some text-heavy use on the phone. If I had another computer I had to use regularly, I would absolutely have it paired to this combo.

I know others here and elsewhere have complained about the software but I found it helpful and not a problem.

MX Master 4 is due to be released “soon” (I’d be surprised if it’s not out during 2025). Just FYI for anybody considering one. I have and like the 3S. Might give it to somebody and pick up a 4 if it reviews well.

+1 for the 3S and I"ll be all over the 4 when it comes. Never had a piece of hardware I think I"ve been so content with, and using BetterTouchTool (as opposed to the Options software, which I’ve found flaky at best) to configure the buttons per app gives you so much flexibility. Genuinely makes me so much more efficient.

Logitech input devices are very good and because of that thay make your computer experience feel better.

Software wise, it’s more of a mixed bag: there’s a lot of hate towards Logi Options / Logi Tune and I can understand it because they are not exactly lightweight apps and include capabilities that are absurd but I believe they are passable. Best option to avoid this is to use KM or BTT, of course.

Aha, that is a five-star review in the subject line, not a censored word. Haha

Indeed, been using MX series mice for years. The 3S’s silent click is another nice feature.

Options and Options+ are spyware-y (IIRC), poorly performant, and glitchy. I use Bettermouse:

For those offering options from a software perspective, I’m on Windows and am severely limited in what software I can install. I’m surprised that Options+ was allowed TBH.

The MX Master 3(s) is a great mouse indeed, I own the 3 and the 3S and they are still great after years of use.

That’s why I always use the offline installer provided by Logitech. Although it’s intended for businesses, consumers can also use it if they know where to find it on the Logitech site. You can disable most of the bloat with command-line options:

I have a similar story like you, I was using another mouse and that was working well so never bothered with 3S.

My original mouse broke and during prime day in Australia I got 2. One for office and one for personal use.

I had the original MX Master mouse for many years, until it finally gave up. Replaced it with the MX Master 3, also many years ago by now.

Except for the odd mid-90s Kensington trackball and the Magic Trackpad, every single external pointing device I’ve used has been manufactured by Logitech. All of them had good, long lifetimes for this class of device.

I like Logitech

I love the MX Master 3S as well, and I was very frustrated with the behavior of Logi Options+ for a few years. My customized buttons wouldn’t function as expected and then I realized I would need to restart Logi Options to fix things and on a regular basis.

However, I just wanted to add a comment: I don’t think I’ve had any issues with Logi Options for over a year, and possibly since about 2023 or so—the software seems to work just fine these days, which is welcome.

I have the MX Master 3 “Mac Edition” - from what I can tell, that just means it doesn’t include the USB dongle thingy? If anyone knows for sure, I’m curious.
I got it before the “S” version came out. I love it… but I think the clicks got louder when they released the “S” version. LOL! I love the scroll wheel and the horizontal scroll on the thumb.
If anything happened to this one, I would replace it with the 3S in a heartbeat. But so far, it just won’t die. Maybe someday, the battery will give out?

I have this mouse. It is fantastic but I have never been able to install the logi options + software. It always crashes in some kernel panic. I have two macs same on both.

I love this mouse, when they go on sale, I buy them and just store them as I never want to try a new one (I got this concept from @ismh86). I have the 3 as well, it’s a bit louder but basically the same device.

I have two MX Master 3S (non mac editions) and they are flawless with my macs. I keep one in my bag and one on the desk.

Given the collective positive reviews, I thought I’d give this mouse a whirl—I’ve been using a Magic Trackpad for the better part of 15 years. And…wow…I’m impressed.

It has all the “gesture” support I need, which is why I’ve been using a trackpad all these years. Amazing.

Good for you. :+1:
Unfortunately, I can’t use a mouse that large, as my hand and arm start to hurt after a couple of hours due to the constant stretching when lifting my hand – That’s why I love the standard Apple Magic Mouse.

There is also the MX Anywhere which is more or less the size of a normal mouse, not the on steroids size of the MX Master.

You were right:

I’ve been carting my 3S back and forth from the office, so I just ordered a 4. Haptic feedback in a mouse seems needless but I’ll try it!
