Logitech MX Master 4

I recently set up the new Logi MX Master 4. I was coming from the 3S, and expected it to be similar, but I’ve been impressed at how much better it is:

  • Bluetooth (no dongle)
  • Moves with greater ease
  • Buttons feel great
  • Haptics are surprisingly nice

Here’s how I have my buttons set up:

The mouse looks beautiful, but I can’t stand the Logi+ app. If you choose to use a third-party app to set it up or configure it, you lose out on some features.

On the other hand, if you opt for Logi+, you get a heavy app that drains your battery and comes with a lot of bloatware that should be optional. Fortunately, you can now disable the AI features. However, I don’t like the Logitech implementation of smooth scrolling, compared to alternatives such as MOS. The Logi app hijacks mouse functions so much that disabling smooth scrolling in the Logi app and trying to use MOS for scrolling completely messes it up.

It’s a game that can’t be won.

What have you noticed? I use Bettermouse and haven’t felt like I was missing anything, but I have yet to even try Logi Options+ with the MX4.

I gave up on Logitech software after numerous attempts to get it working and hours dealing with their support team.

I use BetterTouchTool with my Logitech mouses and keyboard and find it works very well. I lose very few features and gain a lot of customization.

Bettermouse is the most feature complete third party app but I’ve never managed to make scrolling work as smoothly as MOS, can you share your config?

Do they sell left-handed versions? Anyone know?

I bought one from Logi’s website a couple of weeks ago and would have noticed the option because I’m left handed (although I use my mouse with the right hand so I can have space to take notes with my left hand).

Obviously the Mx Master 4 is heavily right handed and you can’t reasonably use it with your left hand.

I’m thinking of picking one of these up. I’ve been issued with a MBP at work so I stop using my personal Mac. I’m having trouble using one Magic Mouse with two MBPs. Does anyone know what the difference is between the Mac version and the non Mac version? I saw a couple of reviews saying that the Mac version doesn’t come with a dongle and has to be bought separately.

Thanks

I think the Mac version has a different shade of colour, but it certainly does not include the USB-C bolt receiver that the regular version has, so in my opinion is a little bit of a scam.

I got the regular version and am not missing anything.

I was asking myself the same question. Besides the dongle and the color options, its basically the same mouse AFAIK. I currently have a regular MX Master 3 (not the Mac version) and it works fine…

What is the doggle actually for?

Connectivity:

  • Enjoy 2X more powerful connectivity (7) with a USB-C dongle, advanced radio chip, and optimized antenna for faster, stronger, reliable performance—or use Bluetooth for more versatility

I have an MX Master 3, and I’ve never used the dongle. I connect via Bluetooth. That said, I’d get the version with the dongle as there is no other difference between the two versions as far as I can tell.

Logitech receivers feel like a wired connection: instant wakeup, no perceptible latency, fewer RF interference problems if your environment is tricky.

On my 3, using Bluetooth, I never feel any lag, instant wakeup.

It’s one of those things that doesn’t bother everyone, like screen refresh rates.
