I’ve got multiple years of screenshots from Twitter, FB, and meme images/reaction shots I’ve saved over the years. They’re all just sitting in a folder or scattered about through different folders in Finder (my own fault), but I’d like to find an image manager where I can see them, tag them, and sort them easily. I don’t want to use Photos because I don’t want to keep separate libraries.
Something like Lightroom or Eagle seems too much for my needs (I don’t want a database manager, I don’t think, because I don’t want file size duplicated. An app that can manage folders would be ideal!), but I feel like what I’m after might not actually be out there.
First thought: what about keeping it in the Finder and put tags (and comments) on them? You say you gonna tag them anyway. That way you can use Smart Folders to quickly sort them out.
@monster94: If you don’t want the extra layer (or the features) provided by apps like EagleFiler, Lightroom, Eagle, DEVONThink, Evernote, Keep-It, and others, then the Finder is your best bet.
There used to be a number of these type of apps, designed to catalogue screenshots, images from the web etc. They mostly have seem to have disappeared. Settapp used to have one included, but I couldn’t see it just now.
I use one called Pixave . it has not been updated for about four years but still works fine. You can tag, sort by colour build a smart folder etc. For me it works really well.
There is also one called Tapetsera - which is similar.
Both are on the App Store.
If you just want a fast viewer to quickly look at a whole folder of pictures and screen shots than I would recommend Pixea - also in the App Store. I now use this is my default picture viewer.
Yeah, I’m starting to think Finder is my best bet, but I just didn’t want certain tags popping up in places. Like, if I’m using one for “I Think You Should Leave,” I don’t want that cluttering things up in other places. Alternatively, if I’ve got a “twitter” tag on something, I kind of only want to be looking for that in that place.
Thanks for the suggestions, and I think that’s the route I’m going to end up having to go!
In Finder prefrences you can deselect tags you don’t want to see in Finder’s sidebar, so that helps to keep things tidy. Also to keep things clean: you don’t have to give a color to a tag, that way your Finder folder/list will not have all that colored dots.
Both of those look like exactly what I’m looking for. I can keep the folder structure I’ve got in finder and not create a huge file that’s acting like a database. I’m playing with Pixave now, but I think this is right on. Thank you!
