Lost all reminders - any other ideas?

So this mystery continues. I’ve now found all the missing Reminders inside the recently deleted folder. I do have OmniFocus and Things installed but it’s definitely not transferring them over to those apps. I keep dropping test reminders into the inbox and sure enough they disappear into the Recently deleted. I have no idea why it’s started to do this in the last few days.

I’m wondering if I should just archive the Inbox list and create a new Inbox list.

Do any third party apps have access to your reminders on any of your devices? Maybe on the Mac, iPhone, iPad?

Also just an idea whether the console log would be of any help here? Not sure if things like that are being logged?

Also question:

  • Does this only happen on one specific device (MacBook maybe) or on all your devices?
  • if it only on one device I would probably disconnect that device from the internet (flight mode) and test again - same result?

I was just about to suggest the same!
I experienced the same issue a while back. I had been using OmniFocus for quite some time and had decided to try out Apple Reminders. But I kept noticing that any new tasks I added to Apple Reminders Inbox would just disappear and be located in the Deleted folder, which was strange. After some investigation I realised that I had the OmniFocus automation feature ‘Reminders Capture’ enabled and was clearly doing what it was intended to do. I switched it off and all was well. I just moved the ‘deleted’ reminders back to the inbox and all good. I have to confess that it did take me a half an hour to work out what was going on, I had even submitted an Apple bug report, turns out it was a forgotten setting.

Definitely one to check.

This was one of the first things I checked as I used to have OmniFocus set up to automatically pull reminders into the inbox. I still don’t know why it was happening but in the end I moved the Inbox list into an archive folder and renamed it. Then I created a new Inbox list and that seems to have fixed it.

To be honest I’ve spent the last few days playing with OmniFocus 4 and I think I’m fairly certain I’m heading back to OF after a 6 year break. Next year is going to be a super busy year and i think I’ve been missing some of the power features of OF.

I hope this will be useful to some of you.

Today I decided to work a few hours on coming up with something that will at least bring some peace of mind to those who want to use Reminders, even if Apple doesn’t allow backups (at least, not that I know). It’s not a complete solution or even a “restore” option, but at least it’s a quick way to guarantee that 99% of reminders are safe, and in a readable format:

I’m in the same club , where I always come back to Omnifocus . It’s usually after a year of trying something else though, not as long as 6 years.
