I was home all day yesterday working and didn’t even miss it. Couldn’t find it today.
I was thinking about switching to Agenda [edit: anyway] because it does pretty much everything I need it to do. I’m typing everything into it. The only thing it doesn’t really do is timing my jobs for start stop times; I don’t usually use the Calendar for that. It’s too slow.
I’m still a bit frustrated that I lost it. I also lost my distance glasses, but I still have my computer glasses.
I’m a big paper planner fan and like to run my day on paper. On Sundays I take a scan with scanner pro to capture everything from the last week. There’s a duplication of effort because I do capture the important things into omnifocus and devonthink, but I don’t mind that. It’s not foolproof and I’d still be very annoyed if I lost the Filofax, but it’s somewhat of a backup.
I once lost several years of "commonplace’ notebooks’ to water damage having left them in a garden shed. I moved to digital after that, but nothing has come even close to the experience of using a paper notebook.
That happened to all of my college books and study notes soon after I left college. Lost everything. Sent me on the path of tiny apartments and “less is more”. I still want them back…
I agree. I especially like writing with a fountain pen. But my paper notebooks always ended up looking messy due to cross-outs, revisions, out-of-order additions, etc. I like being able to easily fix and change things in digital.
Give the cultural norms around in-person meetings (if your writing then your taking notes, however if your typing then you must be working on something else) I moved to taking hand-written notes.
However earlier this year after observing a colleague use a Remarkable 2 I ordered one from eBay and it’s not an exaggeration to say this revolutionised my workflow.
I’ve found the Remarkable to be right balance of physical and digital, a superb writing experience and without the potential distractions or interruptions of using multi-function tablet such as an iPad.
