M2 Max 64 GB vs M3 Max 48 GB?

Fellas, which one should I get? Usage is mostly browsing, movies and hoping to run LLM locally in the future for personal use.

  • M2 Max 64 GB RAM (14 CPU, 30 GPU) 512GB = $3141 (refurbished from Apple, they are like new)
  • M3 Max 48 GB RAM (14 CPU, 40 GPU) 512GB = $3536 (new, including 15% employee discount)
  • M3 Max 64 GB RAM (14 CPU, 40 GPU) 512GB = $3721 (new, including 15% employee discount)

Is m3 worth paying that much more?

PS: don’t care about disk as much. Min 512GB works perfectly for me right now. don’t have that much data

Between just three choices, the M2 Max, because its memory bandwidth 400GBps beats the 300GBps of the 14 core M3 Max. You need the 16 core M3 Max to get 400GBps in this generation. Memory bandwidth is important because of your local LLM use.
