MacOS Music Tag editor

Any recommendations for an app to edit tags in music files (artist, composer, etc. )?

The free ones that I have played with are less than satisfying.

If you use iTunes, you might try here:

Thanks. But I stay as far from iTunes as I can.

I’ve been using Metadatics for as long as I can remember. I don’t think it’s free but it’s well worth it.

Thanks… I don’t need free. I am willing to pay for it. I just want it to be useable :slightly_smiling_face:

Years ago I used MusicBrainz Picard, which has some awesome plugins for tagging.

MP3 Tag.
While it is a Windows app, the developer provides a Wine version which works on macOS.
Getting a warning about Catalina, however it wouldn’t surprise me to see it addressed, as
the developer is very proactive. Will tag everything I have thrown at it

Yate. The best one available imho.

That looks interesting. I will give it a shot. Thanks.

I enjoy using Meta.

Yate is the most powerful tag editor on mac. it has a dizzying array of options and customizations so if you are looking for something simple, it might not be the best choices.

If you’re looking for something to query Musicbrainz and autotag music, look at Picard.

If you like to tinker with the command line and want something really powerful check out Beets.

FYI Yate 5.0 just came out today:

Welcome, Dawfnls! You’ll love it here. Terrific, friendly, knowledgeable, smart people!

I have been playing with Yate and I really like it so far. Thank you for the recommendation!

It’s been my favorite so far beside Tag Editor (which looks like a spreadsheet). I’ve begun to create a massive folder of just music files and once I’ve got my strategy down I’ll have Yate clean everything up with the tags exactly like I like them and my folder structure exactly how I like it. It’s overkill for basic naming needs but I’d rather have more features that I don’t need that not have the features that make the baby herculean effort worthwhile
