macOS Tahoe and readability

I (foolishly) upgraded my MacMini from Sequoia to Tahoe.

Windows seem almost unreadable:

(Don’t worry, this is all publicly available information.)

Is there anything I can do to make this more readable?

Thanks in advance

I hit on exactly this solution after struggling with Tahoe making reading more difficult. It’s very comfortable and pleasant, IMO.

Thanks, Drewster and Katie.

I’m not sure I would go as far as comfortable and pleasant but certainly an improvement.

In fact, having now spent a few hours trying to read the screen, I would not recommend “upgrading” to Tahoe if you can avoid it.

In fact, I would go much further and strongly recommend against this “upgrade”.

This is the best I can get to playing with those settings:

For another example, when I use the quick switching shortcut - command + tab - I can no longer see which window it would shift to plus the icons look like scrappy things a child in kindergarten was finger-painting but got interrupted half way through and didn’t complete the job.

This is shockingly bad; way worse than I experienced on the iPad or iPhone.

Ah, screenshots of work in progress. I love these. You must be an Australian lawyer? Out of curiosity, what about the windows seems unreadable? The toolbar icons?

Interesting: the screenshot I posted has better visibility than I see on the screen itself.

When I use the command-tab application switching shortly, I cannot tell which application it has moved to.

Interestingly however at night time a clear black border shows which application will be switched to.

More generally, the text on the screen is too faint to be readable comfortably. It’s as if I were pointing out something with a printer whose toner had almost run out.

Not upgrading to Tahoe is getting to be a full time job. I get popups every couple of days encouraging me to upgrade to Tahoe. And just now I noticed a standalone upgrade to Safari, that also had “upgrade to Tahoe” preselected when I started the Safari only upgrade.

I’m really fed up with Apple.

Welcome to Tahoe, the worst MacOS I have ever seen since I’ve been using Macs (2011). It is an overall horrible experience, no matter what you do. Don’t ever try to use the contacts app.

I would happily take leather, torn paper and green felt ahead of what we have now.

Recommendation from John Gruber for HazeOver (also works pre-Tahoe).
