After a lot of hesitation, I finally decided to update my Mac to macOS Tahoe.
I was quite skeptical at first. I had read many negative comments from users and, personally, I’m not a fan of the Liquid Glass design on iOS. That said, after using Tahoe for a bit, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Despite some imperfections and areas that clearly need refinement, the overall design feels more modern and airy. In some situations, the transparent menus do cause readability issues, but overall the new interface feels more pleasant to use.
I also really appreciate several of the new features. In particular:
• The changes to the menu bar
• Shortcuts gaining much more power, especially in terms of automation and AI access
• The new Spotlight, which is a significant step forward, even if not yet enough to make me abandon Raycast / LaunchBar
So far, so good… however, as the title suggests, there’s a big “but”.
After the update, my Mac no longer maintains sleep properly. When it goes into standby, it wakes up briefly every ~15–20 seconds, then goes back to sleep, repeating this cycle indefinitely. This makes proper standby essentially impossible.
What I’ve tried so far: Multiple reboot; Disconnecting all external SSDs
Unfortunately, the issue persists.
Has anyone experienced something similar on Tahoe, or does anyone have ideas on how to diagnose and fix this kind of sleep/wake loop? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Run the Console App and look at the System Log. You might get a hint of what’s going on during the time it is “sleeping”.
Thanks, Tomalmy.
I used a Terminal command to get a detailed report of the system wake reasons. Then I asked ChatGPT to help interpret the output.
It turned out the issue was caused by a Bluetooth device generating wake events that were pushing the Mac from DarkWake to FullWake.
The culprit was my Logitech MX Master 3S, connected to the Mac via Bluetooth. I confirmed this by turning the mouse off and putting the Mac to sleep: the wake/sleep loop did not occur.
I’ve now connected the mouse using the Logitech Bolt receiver instead (no idea why I originally chose Bluetooth), and the problem is completely gone.
Very interesting. I have the same mouse and although I’m not on Tahoe yet, my M1 MBP has had a similar “unsolvable” issue for quite a while. My workaround is simply to close the lid when I don’t use it. Since it is primarily a stationary system and set up as such, I don’t always remember to close the lid. I’m going to try switching off the 3S (and maybe the MX Keys if need be) and see if that helps.
I solved the problems with the mouse by doing a hard reset of my Mac mini.
Unplug every cable.
Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds
Reconnect
