MacWhisper - so fast, so helpful!

I’ve been using MacWhisper to transcribe videos and podcasts for a while now, and it just keeps getting better and better.

New, Faster Model - They’ve just added a new transcription model called Parakeet v2, which is seems like it is approx 5x faster, and about as accurate as, the previous model. (Instead of taking 5 minutes to transcribe a 50 minute video, it took less than one minute.)

Watched Folders - I’ve just set it up to watch the same folder that Downie downloads my recordings to, and automatically transcribe any talks and save them as .txt files. Very helpful.

Dictation hotkey - they’ve added a quick, no fuss diction option that is incredibly fast. I press F12, yabber on for a bit, and the transcription comes back in (almost) an instant. I presume it’s faster because I’m using the new model.

Hope this helps. Like many good things, you do have to pay for it, but it saves me sooooo much time, and it’s a quality tool.

MacWhisper is amazing! But the caveat with Parakeet is that it only supports English transcriptions.

Absolutely; Parakeet is much better than OpenAI’s Whisper model in terms of speed. Punctuation isn’t perfect, but I have solved it with the built-in “clean up” prompt using Llama 4 model on Groq.

My only complaint about the dictation functionality is that it pastes the output to whatever screen I am on, but doesn’t copy to the clipboard. Oftentimes I need the output copied to my clipboard because I want to paste it in another application at the same time. So I have been copying manually.

There is a global transcription box(different from straight dictation) which will transcribe the dictation into a modal box, there are buttons for copying or viewing in the app. I am not quite sure the functional difference in recording in this box vs the app, apart from having a cleaner interface.

Yes, I have been using it a few times - my only gripe is that it’s a persistent box compared to Superwhisper’s box that appears only at the time of recording.

Can you compare the two programs .I was interested in super whisperer mostly because of the use of templates and the AI magic. I was watching videos regarding the automation that is available with super whisperer from Robert Oberg‘s YouTube channel fading a thought it certainly looks interesting, but it might be too hard for me to implement.
