Media controls on iPhone lock screen

Hello everyone,

I hope someone can assist me with a small but persistent issue I’m facing on iOS. I’ve been having trouble figuring out how to switch off the media controls on the lock screen. It’s become quite frustrating because I frequently accidentally start audio playing when the screen is locked, which can be quite disruptive.

I’ve tried digging through the settings, but nothing seems to work. If anyone has managed to disable these controls or knows a workaround, I’d really appreciate your guidance.

I didn’t think they could be turned off. I do have the problem of suddenly discovering my phone has been playing audio for potentially hours, and have not figured out why — maybe this is it. I do wish it’d figure out the audio isn’t going anywhere — no connected headphones and zero speaker volume.

I don’t think it’s possible to turn them off.

The only way to remove lock screen control on iPhone home screen is to clear the app from recents app menu when you are done with it.

Thank you for the comments.
The tip to clear the app when finished with it is helpful and I hadn’t thought of that.

I did what I probably should have done first and trawled the apple website and found these instructions implying it is possible - but in practice it doesn’t look like it is.

  • You can make some commonly used features (such as Control Center, widgets, and media playback controls) available on the Lock Screen for easy access when iPhone is locked.*

I knew about this. But in my experience this doesn’t work. I have all the options turned off under Allow Access Off option but the media player still appears. The only thing that works is clearing the app.
