Where have most people landed in the exploration of various menu bar calendar apps? I have been an avid Fantastical user for many, many years and enjoy how fluid the menu bar app is and how quickly I can jump to events and quick add events. (Long story but the new business I work for does not allow Exchange to connect to third-party apps and Fantastical does not show Exchange via macOS.)
I’ve been trying out Dot, but it feels very clunky.
@alexbrooks : Yes, is related to security, data protection, other restrictions of Exchange. I also can’t access work related Exchange/Office 365 (such as the calendar) through e.g. third-party apps like BusyCal. This is only possible through Microsoft’s native apps, such as Outlook or Teams on private devices (and even this could be not possible due to restrictions ruled by the IT). You have to talk to the IT-admin and ask for access to Exchange/… through external, third-party apps/other devices.
I use BusyCal, it offers also a complex menu bar calendar. Here are more info about “Using BusyCal with Exchange / Office 365”. But also here, no work/Exchange calendar. So I use Outlook on my (private) Mac to get access to work Mail and the calendar. It is also ok (for me) because good to divide private and work.
As it stands our policy allows iOS and macOS devices to connect, but not third-party. But for reasons I don’t understand Fantastical on the Mac doesn’t import macOS calendars, have to connect directly.
Hmm, maybe I misunderstand something now.
What do you mean by “importing MacOS calendar” and “connect directly”?
And, you have to use Outlook for iOS/MacOS for connecting to Exchange/your work account?
In Fantastical on iOS I can link my Exchange account “from iOS” which means I just sign into Exchange using iOS. Not possible on macOS, Fantastical needs me to authenticate directly with Exchange which isn’t allowed.
I like(d) it too. Unfortunately this app went the subscription way too. That’s basically a no-go for me. Paying €20/$20/year Is too much for what it is. As is €50/$50 for a lifetime license (well, I think that’s what this is).
Started looking for alternatives. For now I’m using Calendr. Open source, free, but a bit limited. Dato is next on my list.
