Messages taking a long time to appear on M4 MBA?

All of my devices are on the latest OS release. Everything on very solid Wifi.

My phone (17 Pro Max) gets an iMessage and it’s immediately available on my iPad (M4 iPad Air) as well, sometimes it can take a couple minutes to appear on the MBA. 24GB of RAM and generally idle. All devices within 3 feet of me.

Any ideas? Have rebooted. Logged out and back into the Messages app. If I kill the app and relaunch it messages generally will catch up immediately. For a while. This started happened a few weeks ago, maybe around a recent minor OS update. Stumped here. Ideas? Thanks in advance

Update: Here’s a weird bit. on my MBA I disabled Messages in iCloud, rebooted twice, then re-enabled Messages in iCloud. And it started working correctly, for a few hours. Now it’s back to the earlier behavior. So odd. I wonder if some kind of cache or temp file clean-up would help, but I have no idea what’s safe to delete.

iMessage on Mac be like that. I blame the back-end service. There’s nothing wrong with your M4 MBA. Apple just can’t get this to work.

I agree with @airwhale. Messages sync on Mac isn’t as reliable as it is on iPad.

I’ve tried manual syncing on all my devices and my Mac never agrees with my phone on the number of messages in iCloud. I only do deletes on my iPhone or iPad.
