Microsoft retired basic authentication for email

Microsoft retired basic authentication for several mail protocols back in October. My school just turned off basic authentication, which broke MailMate for me. I’ve spent several hours trying to get MailMate to work with OAuth2, but it’s not happening for me.
Your IT department decides which mail clients they allow to work with Microsoft’s email system.
For me, that’s Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, possibly Pine and Mutt.

On my Mac, I haven’t been able to get into Shared Mailboxes or Shared Calendars in any program besides Microsoft Outlook – the non-beta.

FWIW, I think the beta versions of MailMate work with OAUTH2

Microsoft actually postponed the retirement due to COVID, so it’s likely your IT department was sick of all of the security issues caused by leaving the ‘legacy protocols’ enabled and decided to do it early. We do the same thing where I work, though we can selectively enable it for users who accept the security risk.
