Minecraft on iPad

Hello all

Similar to this post … we are looking to get a one-device solution for our 6-yr old: she has an old knackered iPad that isn’t able to hold a charge (even when plugged in it runs down faster than it can charge back up). So we are weighing up a refurbished iPad, perhaps M1 for longevity; or another hand-held gaming device (SteamDeck, Swtitch); or possibly even a console.

The iPad appeals to me most because I know my way around one; she watches her kids YouTube on it already, etc.

I’m especially interested in whether anyone plays Minecraft on IpadOS (I have started to read up on Java v Bedrock but I don’t think we are in programming territory yet). If iPadOS, would you recommend a game controller? If so, which one?

Thanks!

My kids play Minecraft on their iPad 9th generation devices, and they’ve got no problems with it. I don’t have controllers for them, and they only use the touchscreen. It doesn’t seem to bother them at all. I think it’s because they’ve grown up with touchscreens, so they’re more comfortable using them.

I play Minecraft on an iPad Mini 2, and on a seventh generation iPad. No problems.

Super, thanks. My kiddo is on an iPad 5th gen and it has seen better days. We tried to play but the game really dragged.

This gives me lots of options!
