Mounting / unmounting external drive

Many times I plug in an external drive (SSD or USB stick) while my Mac is asleep or locked, and then wake up or unlock and the external drive has not been mounted. It’s annoying but maybe understandable. I unplug and replug the device and I’m good to go. Is there a way to mount the device at this point rather than replugging it?

The reverse isn’t true. If my MBP is asleep and I accidentally unplug a device and expect to be able to replug it before waking up the MBP, IT KNOWS and immediately whines “disk not ejected properly.”

And there are terminal commands available.

Try if mountain can see them, and mount them. I use it for all my network/external drives and gives me fine grained control over mounting operations.
