Hi there. Looking for a place to easily track tv shows and movies (watched and want to watch).
I’ve tried Notion and Excel, but entering all the details for each film/show is time consuming.
I’ve tried Trakt, but there’s no way to import lists, which is insane. Even aside from that, Trakt and the other popular apps that sync with Trakt have cluttered, confusing interfaces and include a lot of social, recommendations, and community lists that I don’t need.
Letterboxd is great, but it’s movies only and I’d like to have movies and tv shows in the same app. Simkl is OK but it’s missing movies and also has a cluttered, messy UI.
Has anyone found a way to track this in a way that’s clean, easy, and Mac styled? I’d love a spreadsheet with film data already loaded!
Note: I see the conversation here from 2020 asking the same thing, but I didn’t find anything satisfying there. I can’t be the only one looking for a clean way to do this!
I use Notion but found a method that taps into an API.
You create a new item in a Notion database and just enter the movie title followed by a semicolon and it pulls in the artwork and details automatically. I can try to find it for you.
Same boat kind of, I don’t think there’s one service that’s the dominant one here. I like Letterboxd for the community.
But JustWatch is one I’d like to use more. Their appleTV app is nifty too, I believe it deep links to the show or movie on that service it’s playing on, and then it asks you when you open the app next time if you finished that program you left the app from last time.
Although I did like Sofa for a time, the interface ended up feeling slightly clunky to me. I am now using Sequel, and I absolutely love it. Very cleanly designed, and it has the ability to log individual episodes of a series. It is available on iOS/iPadOS/macOS, and the $19.99/year subscription price includes all platforms.
I have been using SIMKL for a while now… Their new site design revamp with V2 is really amazing and very much advanced with soo many filter and sorting option available that creating custom lists is easy. [ Lists Page: https://simkl.com/lists/ ]
And yeah, I mostly use its automatic Netflix Sync feature
