My First FOMO -- Irrational?

This is strange. For some reason, I am experiencing FOMO, which honestly has never been an affliction for me. I feel this irrational urge to subscribe to Creative Studio, mainly for the “enhanced” features of iWork, AI, and Pixelmator Pro. Why is this urge irrational? Because I have significantly reduced my use of slides, and when I do use them, I keep them very simple. I occasionally add images, charts, and tables to Pages documents (especially strategic documents and white papers), but most of my documents are text. My use of Numbers is very simple. I have Final Cut Pro but have yet to learn how to use it–but have aspirations for doing so. Pixelmator Pro would be helpful, as I do like to edit RAW photos. I do use AI as an editor for my writing, and since I write frequently, this is helpful.

I have no use for the other apps in the suite.

I am being irrational, right? :slightly_smiling_face: If not, why not?

I may be looking for justification.

You could wait until you feel you need something and then subscribe for one month.

You can then evaluate if you think you’ll continue to need it.

I don’t think you lose anything by waiting [Edit, I’m wrong, you’d potentially lose the free trial]

I think Apple Creative Studio will have a one-month free trial. I plan to sign up on day one and am curious to experience this offering firsthand.

I already have Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro on my Mac. I’m looking forward to using Pixelmator Pro for iPad alongside Photomator for iPad (hopefully Apple continues to develop the latter).

I’ll probably experiment with Motion and Logic, though I’m not sure there’s a place for either in my workflows. I’m an avid user of Numbers and Keynote and am curious whether the enhancements in Apple Creative Studio will be valuable for my use cases.

I would have been in the same situation but I have a long standing desire to learn FCP and Logic Pro.

Just when I thought I was out …

Go the other way, experiment a little with getting rid of existing Apple apps using other completely free apps:

Try OpenLibre for spreadsheet, Davinci Resolve for Final Cut, Audacity for Logic, etc.

Not saying any of these will stick, but the “reverse direction” might neutralize the short-term FOMO.

Better: Wait for “enhanced” features to roll out and see if general opinion says they are worth it or just window dressing to justify subscription price by Apple.

FWIW: I dumped Microsoft Office after hundreds of years being a paid user and am enjoying using OpenLibre instead.

I’m too embedded with Photoshop and Adobe Premiere to try alternatives there - at least not for a few more years.

This is probably what I’ll do. I need to see exactly what these enhancement are and whether or not they will “enhance” my work.
