New AirPods announced!

Mine arrived today! I haven’t had a chance to put them through their paces yet, but I expect my experiences will be very similar to what other people have shared.

p.s. @MacSparky posted Apple AirPods 2 video earlier today and does a great job of summarizing what these new AirPods have to offer.

Switching is much faster, I was getting pretty annoyed by waiting 30 seconds for the series one to switch from phone to laptop, sometimes it simply wouldn’t switch without manually messing in the bluetooth menu of the Mac or switching off bluetooth on the phone.

Hey Siri was the surprise champ for me! It’s been really nice to be able to turn volume up or down, ask for weather or time if I’m busy with my hands.

Hey Siri also works if you almost mumble it to yourself, if you’re still a bit self-conscious about using it in public. Because the mic is so close to your mouth, you can mumble to your self and people will just think you crazy for mumbling, not using Siri!

I finally treated myself to a pair of AirPods for my birthday. I love them but I think there might be an issue with the charging case. Even with light use, the charge of the case is depleted within three days. Is this what I should be expecting or should I go to the shop for a replacement?

I use mine for about 90 minutes per day and have to charge the case about once each week.

Depends how much you’re using the airpods. Mine are in my ears about 8-10 hours a day, although they’re not playing the whole time, and I need to charge my case about every three days.

Thanks for your replies. My case was fully charged this morning. I used my AirPods for about 30mts. The case is already down to 90%. I guess this means I’m making a trip to the Apple store today.

Got a replacement pair from the Apple store. Let’s hope these last longer. :grinning:

How do you guys fastest switch between devices, iPhone, HomePod (is that at all possible to connect AirPods to the HomePod?), iPad and Apple Watch?

I have to go to settings each time and it’s a drag. My previous headphones, the Bose QC 35 would just connect to everything when turned on.

I pull down control centre and press the top right of the Music widget. This brings up the dialog to choose audio out.

David and Stephen mentioned tooth fairy in the menu bar apps episode, which should make it simpler.

At home the Hey Siri functionality of the new AirPods works great at home, but I’m finding it hardly every works when in public places with any background noise.

I’ve stopped using it in public after trying it and getting no response at all, even with repeated attempts. I’ve been trialling using it for couple of weeks and this happens every day. Walking around repeating yourself is not a good image! Thankfully the watch is much more reliable with the raise to talk gesture.
