Nightstand Mode

I have searched this group and Googled and still cannot resolve. My husband and I recently purchased new phones—his an iphone 16 and mine and iphone 16Pro. Nightstand mode works well on mine. On his, the display doesn’t stay on. He has to touch it to see the time. The settings menu is different on the 16 than on the 16 Pro. Ideas?

The 16 does not have an always-on display, so the nightstand mode cannot be shown unless touched.

Only Pro phones have an always-on display, as they can set the screen’s refresh rate to just 1 Hz (once per second), down from the usual variable refresh rate (the maximum for the Pro phones is 120). This allows the phone to display time and widgets in stand-by, which is why the full nightstand mode remains, for now, exclusive to the Pro line.

I was afraid of something like that. It seems like something I should’ve known. Thanks for your response.

I have the 15 ProMax, but also don’t use the “Always on screen” for the StandBy / NightStand feature. However, I do have the “Motion to Wake” option which I prefer. The phone then senses motion close by and turns on the screen for a long enough period. This does not require a touch of the screen.

Of course, I can’t tell if this option is exclusive to the Pro-series, but take a look in the StandBy settings.

Another useful suggestion. Thank you.
