Anyone know if the original HomePod will get intercom abilities? I don’t remember hearing it mentioned but would assume it would.

It is. It’s demonstrated on a pod macro in the graphics on the website. It’s likely why HomePods are still on iOS 13, to stop the feature from leaking.
