In the moment of madness installed iPadOS 2 on a spare device. It does seem reasonably stable but settings claims the device is “indexing” and has been for days.
Indexing improves search and can take a while.
Wow. You aren’t kidding Apple. And in typical form there is no progress bar on indicator of when this might conclude. I know this is Dev Beta 1 but there is a point to fix for Q4 when the OS is in regular use and on new iPhones.
It took several days for indexing on my ipad (m4 pro) to complete. This is why, apparently, the later 26 os releases will start the process over the summer, so the index will be ready when the 27 OSes are released.
I hope this won’t happen to older iPhones for example a 12 Pro Max with just 128GB storage. I doubt my wife will be using the new Siri AI, so indexing it will just waste space. As it is, she’s already running out of storage.
It’s going to replace the current index. Most likely, the same amount of space when it’s done. Supposedly, Spotlight will generally work better for non-Siri-AI users, too.
