OpenAI is buying Jony Ive's AI hardware company

I imagine wealthy people wake up most days totally having forgotten what life is like not being a natural money magnet.

Expect future AI to be thin only for the point of being thin, and always stress form over function.

Since you posted the news article, care to provide some commentary @Bmosbacker? We all read the news…

I don’t have a strong opinion either way. I just think it’s an interesting development as OpenAI moves into hardware. I posted the article because, while many have probably seen the news, others may not have—and might find it worth noting. :slightly_smiling_face:

All the tech companies that don’t have their own OSes want their own OS to control their destiny outside the Apple/Google/Microsoft paradigm.

I trust Jony a lot more than Altman or OpenAI. I’m a little disappointed he’s aligned himself with them

I have different reasons for my opinion of each, and I could be wrong. But it’s unlikely I’ll buying any of their hardware.

Edit:

Altman has been quoted as saying ā€œWe’ve been waiting for the next big thing for 20 years,ā€ ā€œWe want to bring people something beyond the legacy products we’ve been using for so long.

For the AI leader to join forces with Apple’s design guru and borrow a page out of their vertical integration playbook while Apple is vulnerable is not great for Apple.
