I’m reaching out for advice on effectively managing a substantial audiobook library, approximately 1.5TB in size, organized in the following iTunes folder hierarchy:
scss
CopyEdit
Author > Album (Book Title)
Given that the Books app on macOS doesn’t allow customization of the storage location for audiobooks, I’m in search of a Mac application that can:
View and manage my entire audiobook collection.
Edit metadata as needed.
Serve primarily as a management tool; iPhone synchronization is not a priority.
What I’ve Tried:
Plex with Prologue on iOS: While this setup works for listening, I’m specifically looking for a Mac application to manage my large library.
I would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations from those who have experience managing large audiobook libraries on a Mac. If you’ve used any of the applications mentioned above or have other suggestions, please share your experiences.
I am also in a similar boat and my solution is not perfect and I am still thinking of improving it long term. Here is what I do :
When I purchase a Audiobook its generally from Audible.
I open Libation
It strips the DRM and download them on my Mac.
The folder is linked to Plex and I use Prologue to listen to them.
Once done, I move the Audiobook to OneDrive. I have 1TB space.
This solution is okay for now but with Office 365 going up in price soon. I will have to rethink this solution.
This runs on multiple OS. It is server/client setup like plex. Of note this can be used as the server, and then you can use the web interface, its native app, or other apps such as prologue or plappa as the front end app as well.
Fetches all metadata from just folder structure and don’t have to mess with all the issues to make it work in plex.
You can try an instance of Audiobookshelf on Pikapods quickly and easily. I suspect your library size would make it uneconomical to run it full-time, but at least you could test it
