So I care more than most people about display specifications. I have a few comments on the recent iPhone display sizes:
- The iPhone Air was rumoured to have a 6.6" screen. They’ve released it with a 6.5" screen. However, I suspect the rumours saw this exact display. The tech specs list it as having a 6.55" screen (measured as a rectangle, as they always do). So surely it ought to be labelled as 6.6"? I suspect the marketing department is doing something screwy here.
- My iPhone 15 Pro tech specs has a 6.12" screen, and the 17 Pro tech specs has a 6.27" screen. It’s labelled as being .2" larger, but is only .15" when we add more decimal places.
- The jump up from the 6.3" base iPhone and small Pro to the Air is more significant than Apple would seemingly have people believe.
- The Pro Max tech specs is only 6.86". Again not as drastic as Apple would have people believe.
- The XS Max and 11 Pro Max both had 6.5" screens (like the Air’s branding??) except they’re actually .09" smaller than the Air, at only 6.46".
- The 6.7" 12 Pro Max → 15 Pro Max, and all of the Plus models have 6.68/6.69" screens, only .13/.14" larger, yet again the numbers they use on the branding imply that the Air is .2 smaller than these devices.
- the Air screen is bigger than the numbers suggest.
TL:DR,
- The Air really ought to be labelled as 6.6".
