My university recently provided a subscription to Pressreader, and I can’t believe I’ve never encountered it before. I’m a pretty avid news and magazine reader; I counted six annual magazines and 2 newspapers last time I did a subscription review. This means I can cancel all of the previous subscriptions and access much more.
It’s normally quite expensive if your company won’t pay ($30 a month), but the value for someone like me is crazy. I’ve always loved seeing the print layout of magazines and papers, and this really scratches that itch. It also lets you click on a headline and read it in a digital format, so it’s the best of both worlds.
If anyone loves reading quality journalism like I do, this is the best app I’ve come across. Sorry if it’s been discussed before, I didn’t see it!
Nice. I was dimly aware but taking a closer look. How performant/native does the iPad app feel? Also, is the full Economist included in the $30/mo subscription?
The library callouts above: agreed, but I wish we had better subscriptions through ours! I need to finesse access to one of those out-of-state digital cards sometime…
The content from my local library on Libby/Borrowbox is pretty poor… but PressReader is a joy. It’s amazing how much content it gives me access to from around the world, including many major newspapers and magazines like the Economist.
I’m another one who has it for free from my local library. As I live on a county border, I get it for free from two libraries; they have slightly different offerings.
Anyone who lives in the UK should check their local county library
On your Mac you log in to Flipster via your library’s website. Alternatively, you can download the app onto your mobile device, search for your library in the app, and sign in from there. You can download magazines for offline reading in the mobile app.
