Readwise / Readwise Reader now supports MCP for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc

From Readwise:

The Readwise MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible AI direct access to your Readwise highlights and Reader documents. Once connected, you can ask your AI to search your notes, answer questions using your own reading history as context, or even make changes to your Reader library for you.

You can find the setup instructions here.

This will be useful, as my Readwise subscription ends next month and have been using Obsidian, and its web clipper, in place of Readwise Reader. Now I should be to have Claude handle the conversion of my archive to Obsidian notes.

Why not just use the Readwise plug for Obsidian? It will add all your article, book, etc., highlights to Obsidian. Those Obsidian folders are not owned by the Readwise plugin, so if you disable or remove the plugin your data will remain.

I find that the Readwise MCP for Claude has frequent timeouts due to token limits.

Yeah, Claude (I subscribe to the Pro version) totally failed at this. Can the plugin do full article text? I don’t just want the highlights?

Full article text – I’m not sure that’s possible on a bulk / full-account basis.

You can export full articles (and any other type of uploaded content) directly from Readwise Reader itself. Go to the Profile page in Preferences and click the “Export Full Files and Articles” button near the bottom of the page (under “Export Account Data”). You’ll get a link via email to a downloadable .zip file with everything in it.

Good advice.
