Hi Friends,
I had to replace my Logitech K380 Bluetooth keyboard (spilled coffee, boo hoo) and received a Pebble K380S to replace it. It’s over 2x more expensive than the one I bought 3 years ago. So I opted for the $10 cheaper Windows model, naively thinking that the only difference would be button labels. WRONG. On the lower left of the keyboard it’s ctrl, fn, opt, cmd. I’d like to remap the ctrl and fn keys so it’s fn, ctrl, opt, cmd. While Settings>keyboard modifiers on my MacBook Air running 15.7.2 Sequoia lists the Pebble and allows me to remap the ctrl key, it lists a globe key but no fn key. Remapping the globe to ctrl didn’t do anything, so obviously the fn and global keys are different.
I’d appreciate any advice about how to fix this.
One last thing: any advice about changing key caps so I can have the Mac key icons rather than the Windows + Mac names?
Try the free program Karabiner Elements. It allows you to do all sorts of key mapping, from simple substitutions (e.g. swapping two keys around, to complex macros, such as tapping Caps Lock for Escape and holding it down for Control). The basic features are really easy to use, and it includes a program to tell you which key is being pressed – helpful for your case of distinguishing Fn from Globe.
It’s a brilliant program – it’s one of the first things I install on every Mac.
When you’re happy with that, then on the Complex Modifications tab, you’ll find a button Add predefined rules, which takes you to a website with hundreds of user-defined modifications. I use the following ones, all of which I ‘borrowed’ from that site…
Looks like I might be spending the extra $10 after all: under “Current Limitations”, Karabiner Elements documentation says “Karabiner Elements cannot modify the fn key on non-Apple keyboards such as Logitech keyboards.” Oh well, thanks to @brookter I’ll find other things to try.
