Unique situation. We have a IPad mounted in a Square Point of Sale stand. We would like to be able to scan documents into our Dropbox account from it, by holding the document in FRONT of the screen. Yea, I know, sounds weird . Removing the IPad from the stand to scan documents is not practical. We have a HP copier/fax/scanner on the local network, but it is just slow and cumbersome. I have been using the Scanner Pro app, (GREAT APP!) to do our scanning, but I really would like to get away from needing my phone available all the time for this. Any usable ideas that we can work with what we have, rather than purchase another piece of equipment?
I should also mention, that when we scan with the HP copier, it goes to whichever pc on our little network that is chosen, and then we have a lot of hoops to jump through to move the scan copy to Dropbox. Thereās GOTTA be a better way .
OK, fair warning. When faced with an unusual problem my mind frequently defaults to a solution using cardboard and gafferās tape. Question: Is the rear camera usable when in the POS stand?
If so, get a piece of dark gray/black posterboard large enough to leave a 2 - 3 inch margin on each side of the document to be scanned, and attach a small clip to hold the paper in place. Open ScannerPro, Press the + button, hold the board/document in view of the rear camera and proceed normally. Done.
If the rear camera is unavailable, wait until one of the more intelligent members of this forum responds to your question.
HA HA HA HAAAAA! Well I like your ingenuity! Naw, the back is fully covered. You DID cause me to consider if I could drill a camera hole through the back! Too risky.
Ok, I accept not knowing my front side from my back side . I need to scan docs from the SCREEN SIDE of the iPad, while it is still mounted in the Square stand. Any thoughts? I donāt see where in the Notes app that i can change the camera to the screen side of the device.
What about taking the photo, converting it to pdf in Scanner Pro (or elsewhere), and deleting the original jpeg. Maybe you could make a Shortcut to do that so itās still one step for you? Only issue might be dealing with multi-page scans and being able to define the edges of the scanned document.
P.S. Until this post, I never realize you could not switch the camera (in notes of Scanner Pro) to use the screen-side camera to scan. I guess it makes sense since the button is on the screen-side.
Now THATāS a thought! Thanks for bringing it up. I will make a few test runs with this approach. And yep, as far as I can find out, thereās no way to switch cameras in the scanning apps.
