Scanner suggestions needed

I’m looking for a scanner to handle large bulk scans, 150 pages. This is only four times a year, and there are lots of 30—and 40-page scans. Thanks for the suggestions.

Richard

The Fujitsu ScanSnap series is a good choice. Eg; ScanSnap iX1600 white l Get £50* back l ScanSnap Official Site - Europe

I have the older ix500 myself and it’s a workhorse.

Fujitsu ScanSnap, hands down. I have the IX1400 and highly recommend it. It’s the same thing as the IX1600 but $70 cheaper because it doesn’t have a screen on the device (which I didn’t want or need).
I use a keyboard maestro script to launch ExactScan Pro whenever I open the lid. It’s the perfect arrangement.

There, I just saved you 20 hours of research that I did for this device & software

Brother do a nice range of desktop document scanners. I use one of their portable ones (DS-640) with no issues, although my scanning needs are low these days.

I’ve used the Fujitsu ScanSnap models too (S1500M and iX100) and they’re also excellent, although their scanning software is still not Apple Silicon native and requires Rosetta 2 (works fine on Apple Silicon machines).

As it’s only four times a year … outsource that to a local copy shop. Gives you time to do something more productive.

If you must buy one … I like @docd’s advice about Brother and ScanSnap. I’ve had both. Happiest with Brother ADS-1700DW since ScanSnap–which scanned just fine until “bricked” in software the older scanners I had. That Brother device I have can handle the scope you are talking about in batch of a dozen pages at time.

Thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate them.

Agreed. A good sheet-feed scanner is expensive if you’re only scanning 600 pages per year. And since you only need to scan 4x a year, outsourcing is easy. You’ll save yourself the hassle of storing the scanner, keeping the software updated, and the time it takes to scan and correct any errors. None of this is terribly time consuming, but I find scanning large amounts of things tedious.

Do these documents need to be OCR-ed? That can increase costs. But you can also choose to do this on your Mac.

Scansnap, any iX model. Perhaps even a used one (mine is 12 years old, over 20,000 pages, and has only required occasional cleaning, so they are very long lasting). While scanning is generally a sheet or two at a time, when I first got it I was scanning binders of old documents. The two sided sheet feed (50 sheets at a time, I believe) worked well with any misfeeds being caught and reported by the scanner.
