I stopped using Scrivener a while back because the iPad version was good, but frustrating. This week I decided to use my MBP and MacStudio for writing, not my iPad, and I’m using Scrivener again and … OMG I love it. I wrote 2 books in Scrivener and 2 in Ulysses, and both are good, but Scrivener is a work of art.
I’ve got Claude open in one space, and I’m too-ing and fro-ing my text between scrivener and claude. This is a beautiful experience. Claude takes my words and makes them better. I take Claude’s words and make them better. Synergy is the word. As you’ll all appreciate, my reputation as a professional author depends on writing stuff I’m proud of, so I hope you’ll believe my judgement when I say that this is much faster, and the output is better.
(An example, I started (stupidly) writing in 2nd person (“You walk into the room and …”), but then I hated writing that way so I decided to turn it into 1st person, using a character from my novel (“I walk into the room” and Bob said, 'Hello Steve"). And … OMG that’s a pain in the bum at the best of times, but I was also changing tense. Claude did that for me, in minutes, and while it was there it pointed out a few inconsistencies, and suggested a few rewrites.)
The other part … the dictation that comes with the accessibility feature voice control. It is so much better than it once was. It’s way better than the built in dictation. I now use it - rather than the new whisper dictation tools - when I’m chatting with claude on my mac. That said, I still use chatgpt’s dictation for longer bursts of text.
