Search / Querying Apple Mai on Tahoe using AI?

Hi

I would like to up my mail searching on my Mac. I am using Apple Mail and do not plan to change this.

I was thinking about an AI based search (read-only access, on device processing, but possibly pluggable for online llm). And: I do not want to export the apple mails, as they are already in a text format.

I do not know if there is something like that? I always hear MCP server - can I use these?

If not - I am thinking about setting a simple RAG system in docker using a local LLM? Thoughts?

Yes, ideally that would be the way to go to integrate with Claude or ChatGPT. As far as I know, that possibility doesn’t officially exist from Apple, which I suspect that sooner or later will prepare something similar on top of Shortcuts or whatnot.

There are promising open source repositories like this one: GitHub - baryhuang/mcp-remote-macos-use: The only general AI agent that does NOT requires extra API key, giving you full control on your local and remote MacOs from Claude Desktop App

Why does it has to rely on Apple? The mails are (usually) downloaded, they are in text format very similar to the emo format (or idetical?). So anybody could implement this?

Also, the link talks about Control - no way! I want to have read only. There is a tendency to have AI implemented above it’s pay grade (of a very knowledgable but many many things misunderstanding apprentice, who want’s to please with always giving an answer).
