I have an iPhone 17 Air that isn’t really meeting my needs. Would it be better if I bought an iPhone 17 Pro now and sell the iPhone Air independently or buy an iPhone 18 Pro this fall with the iPhone 17 Air as a trade in?
Hi, You could probably get a better overall value by selling the iPhone 17 Air yourself and buying the iPhone 17 Pro, since private sales often bring in more money than trade-ins. However, if you’re not in a rush, waiting a few months for the iPhone 18 Pro could be worthwhile if the rumored upgrades appeal to you.
Personally, I do compare the trade-in offer against local resale prices for the 17 Air before deciding. The difference can sometimes be larger than expected.
Normally, the advice would be to wait for the 18. This year, Apple has signalled price increases at some point which will, I suppose, affect the new models and that’s a factor.
I’m on a 14 Pro and dithering about whether to go now or wait. I’ll probably wait.
Definitely sell the Air separately. There are places like MusicMagpie that offer better prices than trade in
What needs is it not meeting?
Well, the base iPad Air has just gone up by a whopping 25% in the UK Apple Store (+£150) today. Will be interesting to see what they do on the phone front in terms of increases.
Camera and battery life.
The Pro Max should certainly make a difference there. Apple just announced a 20% price hike for their laptops, so if you’re doing this it might be worth doing before the price hike unless you’re willing to wait for the new version in the fall and absorb the price increase that will be likely.
Don’t overlook the base 17 model. It has a better camera and better battery life than the Air.
