SetApp - Which apps do you use?

For me it was Pathfinder stopped working. I was all in on Pathfinder until, when I would open a folder, it would appear empty. Not what one wants in a Finder replacement.

Requests for support were not successful.

I get that. I used the Apple Calendar integration with NotePlan first and still have not committed to its integration with Apple Reminders. I like task lists and am a long time user of the Due app for notifications. At the moment, I am trial-ing a switchover to Reminders. The Apple Calendar takes up an under-used panel on the right side of the NotePlan UI. It would feel more useful to me if my reminders were also to use that space. (The Due app is not integrated directly with NotePlan.)

This is my issue exactly.

A few that I use and haven’t seen listed yet:

TripMode — an old app, but I still find myself needing it when people on a video call complain that my stream is lagging. I open TripMode and turn on my custom “video call” setting, and it always fixes the problem.

Hand Mirror — another older app, but it’s nice to have when you are using different cameras for video calls or have additional lighting. It allows me to check that the image looks decent before the call starts.

Default Folder X — I only use a fraction of the features, but my work computing would be significantly more annoying without it. I’m constantly working on 2 or more projects simultaneously, so having previously-accessed folders always available in open/save dialog boxes is key. I still use the sidebar for the top-level folders, but I’ve been using computers for decades & have lots of old-school habits. (like using folders to organize everything and saving multiple versions of a file as I work on it). Easy access to sub-folders is really helpful to my workflow.

I ended up removing Hand Mirror when I realized I could do the same thing with Photo Booth

This is news to me.

I’ll continue to use it for as long as it works.

This is what I did as well. I either bought the app, or bought a similar app. I think Setapp is fantastic value for those who use a lot of their apps, I just wasn’t using that many so made no sense to me.

I use Camo and my iPhone for my camera, so I get a built in how things look check when I start the Camo.

Why do you prefer Camo over the built-in Continuity Camera?

Zoom, Pan and even overlays if I want.

How much extra does it cost?

I got a lifetime license before continuity camera existed. Pricing: Pricing – Camo

They have a lifetime license and a good free trial

That’s a good reason to keep using it, since you like it better

Second answer better than the first. It allows me to look more professional in zoom meetings. I can zoom and pan, just enough that you can’t see my office is a spare bedroom. Worth $$.

The top tier for me: Hookmark, Jump Desktop, Tripmode, Downie, and Nitro PDF Pro. Under the radar: Pixelsnap.

Tip: if you want to highlight text in a PDF with big watermarks on each page, Preview app often has trouble, trying to hightlight the banner/watermark rather than underlying text. Nitro PDF Pro works well for these PDFs.
