I recently had a rather serious (and bone-headed) operator error using SuperDuper which caused me to hose one of my backups. Not a catastrophe, because I have multiple backups (and Backblaze). But I mis-read the logs (this is the bone-headed part) and thought that the SuperDuper app had done something wrong. So I sent a help request in.
Very fast response, very kindly pointing out that according to the logs, yeah, I was the problem. Again, super kind. Well, in rebuilding my backup, I kept getting errors and failed copies. So I kept the tech support requests going.
Even though I was using a several-versions-old macOS, they found the bug in SuperDuper that was causing the error, issued an update, and emailed me (and a few others it seems) to alert us to the fix. They even put something in the release notes to thank me, when all I did was (a) be dumb, (b) blame the app for my mistake, and (c) keep asking for help.
It was such a great experience of fast, thoughtful, and helpful tech support! If you’re not making regular local clone backups, I strongly recommend SuperDuper!
Same story, same result. Excellent program, Super Duper Dev, . Alas, I’ve gone all in with iPads of late. Thus, haven’t screwed things up…lately, on a Mac.
Quick question … both Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner have a lot of features/documentation. Is there any reason anyone would suggest one over the other? Thanks!
I’m afraid I can’t really give a truly informed answer. SuperDuper has been great for me for, gosh… 15+ years I think? I know lots of folks swear by CCC as well. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. If you have particularly advanced needs, then I’d suggest looking closely at documentation.
I’ve paid for and tried both. My advice is to read their websites. Trial the software. Read about other experiences on this forum and elsewhere.
Both apps will do the job. It comes down to what you find appealing. After running SupeDuper! for years, I switched to Carbon Copy Cloner and have been a happy user ever since.
I switched from SuperDuper to Carbon Copy Cloner several years ago. I can’t remember why I switched but I’ve been happy with Carbon Copy Cloner and the developer is very responsive if I have a problem (which isn’t often).
I got SuperDuper! years ago over CCC because it was paid software, CCC was free at the time, so I expected Shirt Pocket Software to be more stable. Now days it’s pretty much a tossup between the programs and the companies.
