SOLVED: How to do a clean un-install of Java

I have a message from the Java updater about a “critical update” to be applied. It downloads fine, but the installer instructs me to first “remove unused Java versions”. This step fails, causing the installer to exit with no additional messages or suggested actions.

I’m pretty darn sure I don’t need Java on here anymore, so would be happy to see it totally gone.

Anyone know of a good step-by-step instruction on how to get it off my macOS Sonoma 14.3.1? I suspect it is burrowed in deep, and would like to perform all steps an official uninstaller would have done.
