Sparky How are you dealing with Omnifocus?

I use omnifocus as my task manager. But no MCP available. Did you ditch OF? O did you find a way of using it?

Love OF
Use it all day long

I stopped using it about 6 months ago, but Im sure there’s an MCP for it. Or you can probably build your own in Claude Code.

Some people are offering independent MCP servers for OF. Omni aren’t rolling their own at this time.

If you have the subscription that includes OF for the web, you can use the Claude for Chrome extension and it will access your OF that way. I don’t have that subscription, but it tried it a bit during a trial, and it seemed to work ok. In the meantime, I moved a few things over to Todoist to try out that MCP. Honestly, it’s pretty buggy, and the authorization needs to be reset almost every time, so I don’t think it will be a permanent solution for me right now.

I have been using Omnifocus since 2010. It has never been replaced!

I used a local MCP server. I did my due diligence and accepted to go this path based on my risk assessment. YMMV.

I have Cowork write the applescripts to create Omnifocus tasks and grab lists of tasks as needed. When it needs to see a list of tasks, it has helped me write applescripts to do so and then fire those off via Drafts actions. A roundabout but effective way for Cowork to read from OmniFocus automatically.

This link from Omni-Automation has a way to connect Omni products with Apple Intelligence. See if this helps.

I’m exporting my OmniFocus tasks in txt format. I’ve also made a little skill to create tasks to add back in. At the moment I’m comfortable with the manual oversight I have.
