Stage Manager on Mac Question

Given the upcoming updates to Stage Manager, I thought I’d try to master the current version in preparation for the new release.

I must be missing it, but I can’t find a way to use the keyboard to remove an app from a set, I can only find the menu option. I can create a custom keyboard shortcut if needed, but does a keyboard shortcut already exist for this?

Not an answer to your question but also doesn’t have a keyboard shortcut for this in Sonoma.

That seems like an obvious oversight. I guess I’ll create a custom keyboard shortcut, but for people who don’t know how to do that, I would think it would be very frustrating to separate apps from an existing set. Surely there is an easier way to do it than going to the menu.

Given it’s a menu item, you can create a keyboard shortcut via macOS Prefs panel. See here: Create keyboard shortcuts for apps on Mac - Apple Support.

Thank you, I’ve done that for a number of apps in the past. However, interestingly, Stage Manager is not available in the Settings app. In fact, upon further investigation, I realized that the menu option that I was showing only applied to Safari. When I use other apps at the forefront, that option is no longer available. So, it appears, unless I’m missing something, that one cannot create a keyboard shortcut to remove an app from a set.

You’ll be fine setting a shortcut under the “All Aplications” section. Have a look at this section of the KB article:

Select App Shortcuts on the left, click the Add button , click the Application pop-up menu, then choose a specific app or All Applications.

Thank you, that worked. I was trying to find Stage Manager, so I could add the application-specific shortcut. Selecting All works.

Thanks for this post. I have recently started dabbling in Stage Manager as well across MacOS and iPadOS… It’s interesting in some respects but I am not sure I have the hang of it… nor do I see it’s usefulness. Happy for any pointers. I’m also flying blind to what’s coming in the next updates. I haven’t watched the latest vids from Apple much.
